Gulang Island (Drum Wave Island)
Gulang Island is a very small island. It covers an area of 1.91 square kilometers and has a population about
20 000. However, it’s one of the most famous tourist attractions in China because the island has many beautiful seaside and hills. There are about 4 to 6 beaches on the island, which attract a lot of swimmers in summer..Also the island has a very good music tradition. It is called the “Island of Pianos”, “the cradle of musicians”. There are more than 500 pianos among 6000 households on the island. Many famous musicians in China were born and brought up on it, like the conductor and the art supervisor of the Chinese symphony orchestra, Chen Zuohuang, famous pianist Yin Chengzong who are both Gulang Island locals. The island was an international settlement last century. 13 countries had set up consulates on this island. So the western architecture style was brought here and merged with the local craftsmanship. Besides, many overseas Chinese who lived in Southeast Asia early this century also brought back the architecture style there. So we say Gulang Island is the museum of architecture building.

South Putuo Temple
South Putuo Temple, one of the famous old temples of Fujian ,was built in Tang Dynasty more than one thousand years ago. It was ruined in a battle during Ming Dynasty, and was rebuilt during Qing Dynasty. Because it is situated to the south of Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province, where there is a similar temple, and because both temples are all devoted to Guanyin(a Bodnisativa),this temple is named South Putuo Temple.

Huli Hill Fort - China`s doorstep
Huli Hill fort, located strategically on the beach behind Xiamen University, has always been considered the door to Xiamen. And given that Xiamen is "China`s gateway," that makes Huli Hill Fort China`s doorstep.Huli Hill Fort is virtually impregnable, thanks to its construction of sand, clay, camphor tree juice, lime and glutinous rice (during a prolonged siege defenders could eat their fort!)Huli Hill Fort boasts The World of Exotic Stones, and an exhibition of ancient armaments. But its real claim to fame is the 60 ton German - made coastal defense gun installed by some big shot back in 1896.During the Opium Wars, China had over 100 cannons, but Huli Hill`s behemoth is the only well preserved coastal cannon left. With a range of 16,640 meters, it could easily lay into Tai wan - occupied Jinmen island, a mere two miles offshore.
